Bhubaneswar: Empowering Women Through Subhadra Scheme
On Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida urged eligible women beneficiaries who have yet to receive their Subhadra funds to visit their banks and activate the Direct to Bank (DBT) option in their accounts. Currently, approximately 250,000 eligible beneficiaries have either not completed their e-KYC or have not enabled DBT.
In addition, another 200,000 women may receive their first installment of Subhadra money before March 8, which coincides with International Women’s Day. “It’s crucial for eligible women to claim their benefits by activating the Direct to Bank Transfer (DBT) option. They should also verify that their accounts are linked to their Aadhar numbers and that e-KYC procedures are completed. Lists of eligible beneficiaries can be accessed at block and municipal levels, all Anganwadi centres, and on the Subhadra portal,” emphasized Parida.
Renewed Registration Opportunities for Women
In an effort to enhance participation in this transformative initiative for women’s empowerment, Parida announced that women whose applications were rejected or who chose to opt out for various reasons can re-register for the program. “If any woman believes she qualifies and has not accessed the benefits yet, they are encouraged to contact the block-level committee members to resolve any issues. The government is committed to ensuring that every eligible woman can receive the Subhadra benefits,” she added.
Progress of the Subhadra Scheme
Since its inauguration on September 17, 2024, the Subhadra Scheme has successfully provided Rs 5,000 in financial assistance to 9.8 million women through four phases. By March 8, 2025, the government plans to disburse the initial installment to an additional 200,000 beneficiaries, aiming to reach the milestone of one crore women supported. Over the course of the scheme, which is set to run from 2024 to 2029, more than one crore women will receive a total of Rs 10,000 in financial support, distributed in two installments.
