Ovum Launches AI-Powered Women’s Health App to Enhance Healthcare Access

Overview of Ovum’s AI-Powered Solution
Ovum, a healthcare technology company based in Australia, has officially launched an AI-driven application designed to empower women in managing their health. The app has been made available on the App Store following a $1.7 million funding round, backed by investors including Giant Leap, Antler, and Wollemi Capital Group.
Features of the Ovum App
At the core of the Ovum app is an AI engine known as the Ovum Brain. This technology enables users to:
- Track symptoms and lifestyle changes
- Receive personalized health insights based on individual health history and goals
- Generate health reports and summaries for use during medical appointments
Addressing Healthcare Delays
The app aims to tackle substantial delays in women’s healthcare diagnostics that often see conditions like endometriosis taking an average of six to eight years to diagnose. Statistics indicate that over 50% of women in Australia live with chronic health conditions and frequently encounter misdiagnosis or dismissal by healthcare professionals.
“It takes an average of six to eight years for women to be diagnosed with endometriosis. This happens because too often the medical system dismisses women,” stated Dr. Heffernan-Marks, who holds a Doctor of Medicine from Macquarie University and is pursuing a PhD focused on femtech and AI.
Development Journey and Research Basis
The Ovum app has been in development for nearly four years, integrating data and insights from clinical trials conducted at major medical facilities including The Royal Hospital for Women and St George Hospital. The app underwent a beta testing phase aimed at assessing women’s healthcare experiences and identifying how AI could enhance preventative health behaviors.
Using female-centric medical literature, the platform recognizes health patterns over time and provides timely reminders for when medical attention may be required. Ovum is committed to closing the gender health gap by equipping women with data to effectively advocate for their health needs.
Future Aspirations
“This is just the beginning. Our mission is to ensure that every woman has access to the personalized insights she needs to make confident decisions about her health, no matter her age, location, or background,” Dr. Heffernan-Marks emphasized.
The app features a free trial and offers women the option to share their data to assist in building what the company describes as the ‘world’s largest longitudinal women’s health dataset.’ This initiative aims to bridge gaps in women’s health research and improve future healthcare outcomes.
