Oklahoma Women’s Basketball Team Falls in AP Rankings
The Oklahoma women’s basketball team has slipped three spots in The Associated Press Poll, now holding the No. 13 position nationally. This marks the lowest ranking for the Sooners thus far this season.
Recent Game Performances
Last week, the Sooners faced a tough battle, suffering a narrow loss to Mississippi State (15-3, SEC 2-2) with a final score of 81-77. However, they bounced back on Sunday with a solid victory against Texas A&M (8-8, SEC 1-3), winning 77-62.
Struggles and Improvements
Throughout the week, the team struggled with turnovers and fouls, accumulating 40 and 43 respectively. Shooting was another challenge; during the game against Texas A&M, the Sooners achieved a disappointing three-point shooting percentage of 24.2%, making only 8 of 33 attempts. Overall, their field goal percentage was 39.4%, converting 26 of 66 shots.
Despite these challenges, the Sooner’s defense displayed notable improvement on Sunday, limiting Texas A&M to a field goal percentage of just 26.9%. This is the lowest percentage recorded by a conference opponent since January 15, 2020, when they held West Virginia to 23.7%.
Player Highlights
Junior center Raegan Beers was a standout performer for the Sooners, leading the team with a total of 35 points over the two games. Beers achieved her seventh double-double of the season in the contest against Mississippi State, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. She followed up with 16 points and nine rebounds against Texas A&M before an injury sidelined her in the third quarter.
Looking Ahead
Next up for the Sooners is a home game against Missouri (11-8, SEC 0-4) at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The game will take place at the Lloyd Noble Center and will be available for viewing on SEC Network+.
