Watford Women Gear Up for New Season with Promotion Opportunities
Fixture Release Date Confirmed
In an exciting development for fans and players alike, Watford Women will learn their matchups for the upcoming season in two weeks. The FA has announced that the fixtures for the FA Women’s National League will be unveiled on Tuesday, July 15. The new season is set to commence on Sunday, August 17, running through to Sunday, April 26.
Aiming for Promotion
After finishing third in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last season, the Golden Girls have set their sights high. Aiming to claim a spot in the top two could pave the way for promotion to the Women’s Super League (WSL). Notably, this season offers an intriguing opportunity as an additional promotion slot will be available.
Changes in Promotion Structure
The FA has communicated significant changes to the promotion structure this season, following the approved expansion of the WSL. Alongside the league winners from both the Southern and Northern Premier Divisions, an extra team will move up from Tier 3 to WSL2. This alteration aims to maintain balanced divisions with 12 teams across Tiers 2, 3, and 4 for the 2026/27 season.
The determination of this additional promotion place will occur through a playoff, featuring the runners-up from both the Southern and Northern divisions.
Route to Tier 3 for Aspiring Teams
In addition to the increased opportunities for promotion to WSL2, the upcoming season will also see a rise in the number of teams moving from Tier 4 to Tier 3. Two additional teams will join the four champions, enhancing competition across the divisions.
