After an impressive performance throughout the tournament, Okonkwo was honored as the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In the title game, she showcased her skills by playing the entire 40-minute duration and scoring 19 points. This remarkable feat allowed her to lead an elite All-Tournament Team, which featured standout players such as Cierra Dillard (Senegal), Delicia Washington (South Sudan), Jane Asinde (Uganda), and Sika Kone (Mali).
Amy Okonkwo (Nigeria)
During the tournament, Okonkwo emerged as the leading scorer for the D’Tigresses, earning her MVP title for the second consecutive time. Over the course of five matches, she maintained a consistent scoring performance, averaging 14 points, 6 rebounds, and an efficiency rating of 15.6. Notably, she achieved double-digit scores in all but one game, where she recorded 8 points against Mozambique, culminating in a stellar 19-point effort in the final against Mali.
Cierra Dillard (Senegal)
Cierra Dillard was instrumental in guiding Senegal to the Final Four, overcoming the challenges posed by an injury that nearly sidelined her. The standout player averaged 13.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists, culminating in an impressive efficiency rating of 16.8. Her performance was vital for Senegal’s success in the tournament.
Delicia Washington (South Sudan)
Delicia Washington became one of South Sudan’s top performers in Abidjan.
Delicia Washington made a significant impact on South Sudan’s journey, leading them to a historic bronze medal win in her tournament debut. She averaged an impressive 18.2 points per game and secured the Best Scorer award. Washington consistently delivered strong performances, including a double-double against Mali with 18 points and 12 rebounds, and just missed another double-double with 8 points and 10 rebounds against Senegal.
Jane Asinde (Uganda)
What a year it’s been for Jane Asinde! She was a standout performer for Uganda despite their eighth-place finish.
As the captain of Uganda, Jane Asinde emerged as a star player, averaging 15.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. Although the team finished eighth, her efficiency rating of 17.6 was the highest among her teammates, reflecting her crucial role.
Sika Kone (Mali)
Sika Kone recorded her third double-double during the Women’s AfroBasket Final against Nigeria.
Sika Kone played a vital role for Mali in their pursuit of breaking an 18-year title drought. Averaging 10.4 points and 11 rebounds per game, Kone’s performance in the final was highlighted by a double-double, where she scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. She rebounded from a slow start in the group phase to register three double-doubles throughout the tournament.
