Northern Michigan University Women’s Track and Field Shines at St. Norbert Invitational

Meet Overview
On Saturday, as the NFL Draft concluded at Lambeau Field, the Northern Michigan University (NMU) women’s track and field team exhibited a strong performance at the St. Norbert Invitational in De Pere, Wisconsin. With 14 podium finishes, the Wildcats are gearing up for the GLIAC Outdoor Championships, while aspiring to secure spots in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships later this month.
Key Highlights
At the St. Norbert Invitational, NMU achieved:
- Seven event victories
- Four second-place finishes
- Three third-place finishes
- Ten new personal records set by athletes
Notable Performances
Among the standout athletes:
- Ahna Larson: Dominated the sprints, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.76 seconds and the 200 meters in 25.90 seconds.
- Ellyse Wolfrath: Claimed victory in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.05 seconds.
- Ella DeBruyn: Secured first place in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:48.61.
- Ciara Ostrenga: Finished first in the 400 meters at 57.80 seconds.
- Wilme Els: Won the javelin event with a throw of 39.41 meters (129 feet, 3 5/8 inches).
- Emily Czeiszperger: Took first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.46 meters (11-4 1/4).
Runner-Up and Third Place Finishes
Additional notable finishes included:
- Wolfrath: Second place in the 200-meter dash (25.96 seconds).
- Crystal Walker: Achieved second in the 100 hurdles (14.13 seconds).
- Rebecca Lane: Second in the pole vault, matching Czeiszperger’s height of 3.46 meters (11-4 1/4).
- Alayna Vandegriff: Took second in the triple jump with a jump of 11.84 meters (38-10 1/8).
- Walker again: Finished third in the long jump with a leap of 5.52 meters (18-1 3/8).
- Teiolla Harvey: Placed third in the shot put with a throw of 11.96 meters (39-2 7/8).
- 4-by-100 Relay Team: Made up of Sofi Diop, Kanya Campbell, Amaya Teague, and Maddy Rasmussen, finished third with a time of 50.91 seconds.
Upcoming Competitions
The Wildcats now look forward to the GLIAC Outdoor Championships, starting Wednesday and continuing through today at Grand Valley State’s track. The team aims to qualify athletes for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships commencing on May 22 in Pueblo, Colorado.
