In a notable achievement for Northern Michigan University’s women’s soccer team, three standout players have been recognized with All-GLIAC honors. The announcement from the conference celebrated the exceptional performances of Hannah Kastamo, Kenna Alexander, and Madison Bilbia.
Hannah Kastamo: A Defensive Powerhouse
Senior captain Hannah Kastamo from Hartland, Michigan, has been named to the All-GLIAC First Team as a defender. Recognized as the 2024 GLIAC Defender of the Year, Kastamo has showcased her versatility in multiple roles on the field during the current season. Leading the Wildcats, she has netted 6 goals, provided 4 assists, and contributed a total of 16 points. Furthermore, her three game-winning goals underscore her crucial presence. Having played in every match this season, she has logged an impressive 1,557 minutes on the pitch. Kastamo’s accolades include multiple GLIAC awards, emphasizing her status as an invaluable asset to her team.
Kenna Alexander: Rising Midfielder
Fellow senior captain Kenna Alexander, native of Bloomington, Indiana, has been honored with All-GLIAC Second Team recognition. Her senior year has been marked by a remarkable scoring streak, with five goals in as many matches, including two game-winners. She shares the team lead in goals with Kastamo, having accumulated 14 points. Alexander’s commitment is reflected in her consistent starting role, where she has played every minute in nearly every game, achieving personal bests across all statistical categories.
Madison Bilbia: Offensive Contributor
Madison Bilbia, a junior from Kalamazoo, Michigan, has received her first All-Conference recognition, earning a spot on the Honorable Mention team. She ranks second for the Wildcats with 3 goals and has contributed 3 assists, totaling 9 points while leading the team with 55 shots. Bilbia’s impressive performance has been vital to the offensive strategy, as she has started in all 19 games of the season, setting new personal records.
Upcoming GLIAC Semifinals
The Wildcats are set to compete in the GLIAC Semifinals, marking their sixth consecutive appearance at this stage. They aim for a spot in the GLIAC Championship for the fourth year in a row. Their next challenge is against Grand Valley State University, which boasts several noteworthy accolades, including GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year and multiple All-Conference selections.
The semifinal match is scheduled for Friday, November 14, at 1 p.m., taking place at the GVSU Soccer Field.
