CHARLOTTE — Ni Xi of the No. 47 Charlotte Women’s Tennis team has been honored with the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for the second time this season. Her remarkable performance last week was instrumental in leading the 49ers to a record-setting third victory over a ranked opponent this year.
Xi’s impressive week featured two significant wins: one in singles and another in doubles, which contributed to the team’s dominant sweep over then-No. 40 Yale last Thursday. Partnering with Shona Nakano, who also received a conference weekly award earlier this month, Xi secured a decisive 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles. This win elevated their doubles record to an outstanding 12-1 this spring, marking them as the most successful duo on the team.
Following their strong performance in doubles, Xi continued her winning streak by triumphing in her singles match against Yale’s Shyla Aggarwal, finishing with a score of 6-2, 7-5 from the No. 2 singles position. With this victory, Xi has now achieved 10 wins out of her 12 matches, making her one of the top competitors on the squad.
This victory has propelled Charlotte to the No. 47 spot in the ITA Team Rankings, reflecting the team’s best standing this season, and securing its place within the national rankings for four consecutive weeks.
