Indiana University Unveils New Degree Programs in Robotics and Sports Media
During its September meeting, the Indiana University Board of Trustees has given the green light to two new undergraduate degree offerings at IU Bloomington. These programs reflect a commitment to enhancing engineering education and responding to emerging workforce necessities.
New Academic Offerings
- Bachelor of Science in Robotics
- Bachelor of Science in Sports Media
Bachelor of Science in Robotics
The Bachelor of Science in Robotics will be administered by the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering. This initiative is part of a broader effort that includes a significant $75 million investment aimed at bolstering human-centered engineering.
This innovative program is designed to address the growing demand for expertise in robotics and automation, particularly in technology and manufacturing sectors. It aims to enhance educational access, drive innovation, and contribute to economic advancement.
Students will engage in a comprehensive curriculum incorporating areas such as artificial intelligence, programming, and design and control systems. Moreover, the program will emphasize practical industry experience and entrepreneurship skills to better prepare graduates for successful careers.
Bachelor of Science in Sports Media
The Bachelor of Science in Sports Media will be offered through The Media School within the College of Arts and Sciences. This program seeks to fulfill the rising demand for sports media education at the Bloomington campus.
Sports media ranks as the second most sought-after concentration within the Bachelor of Arts in media degree program. The B.S. format allows students to earn more substantial major coursework than is possible through the current concentration structure.
This program capitalizes on practical curricula and co-curricular opportunities curated by faculty, while leveraging existing collaborations with the Department of Athletics and Radio-TV Services to enhance learning experiences for students.
Graduate Preparedness and Next Steps
Graduates from both programs will be well-equipped for immediate employment or further academic pursuits. Final approval from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education is pending for these new offerings.
