President Donald Trump’s recent executive order aimed at safeguarding women’s sports has garnered support not only from conservative voices but also from several prominent individuals with more liberal political perspectives, including a trans-identifying athlete.
This month, Trump enacted the “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order, which was ceremoniously signed at the White House in front of numerous female athletes and their coaches.
The directive instructs federal agencies to interpret Title IX regulations that prohibit sex discrimination in education to mean that men identifying as women are barred from participating in female athletic competitions.
According to CNN analyst Harry Enten, a former senior writer at FiveThirtyEight, Trump’s measures concerning women’s sports “are probably the most popular thing he’s ever done.” Enten referenced a January New York Times/Ipsos poll that highlighted the widespread support for the order.
“Overall, 79% of Americans—67% of Democrats, 64% of independents, and 94% of Republicans—are in agreement with Trump,” Enten noted. He also pointed out that support for the ban has surged by 17 points, rising from 62% to 79% since 2021.
The subsequent sections of this report will explore reactions from various critics of Trump, further highlighting left-leaning commentators and others who may unexpectedly back the executive order to keep men out of women’s sports.
