NDSU Volleyball Falls to South Dakota in Four Sets

NDSU Volleyball Stumbles Against South Dakota

In a recent showdown at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse, the North Dakota State University (NDSU) volleyball team faced a challenging match against South Dakota, resulting in a 3-1 defeat. This loss leaves NDSU with an overall record of 11 wins and 7 losses, along with a Summit League record of 5 wins and 3 losses.

Standout Performers

  • Baily Randall: Led the Bison with a remarkable 14 kills, achieving an impressive hitting percentage of .385 alongside 9 digs.
  • Maddy Dombeck: Came close to a double-double, recording 24 assists and contributing 9 digs.
  • Sadie Johnson: Set a personal best with 12 digs during the match.

Set Breakdown

First Set

Starting strong, the Bison initially built a lead of 10-6 thanks to a kill by Ally Barth. However, South Dakota made a comeback with a significant 8-3 run, briefly taking the lead at 19-18. NDSU responded, overcoming the Coyotes to finish the set at 25-22, showcasing a match-high hitting percentage of .350.

Second Set

The momentum shifted in favor of South Dakota in the second set, where they surged ahead to a 17-9 lead, bolstered by a service ace from Kamryn Farris. They maintained a striking hitting percentage of .524, ultimately closing the set with a dominant score of 25-14.

Third Set

Continuing their momentum, the Coyotes established a 16-12 lead mid-set. Despite a valiant effort from NDSU, which included bringing the score to 20-19 with a Randall kill, South Dakota finished the set strong, winning 25-20.

Fourth Set

In the final set, South Dakota quickly built a 10-3 lead. They further extended their advantage, sealing the match with a 25-18 victory in this set.

Looking Ahead

NDSU is set to host Kansas City on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1 p.m. at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse, where they will look to bounce back from this defeat.
