The Rise of Takuya Ikoma: A ‘Kept Man’ in Japan
Takuya Ikoma, a 31-year-old man from Japan, has become an internet sensation as a ‘kept man’ who earns an impressive one million yen (approximately US$7,000) monthly. His unique services cater to affluent women seeking companionship and assistance with household chores, as reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).
Providing Support Beyond Companionship
Ikoma’s work revolves around accompanying wealthy women on shopping excursions, dining experiences, and vacations. He emphasizes the emotional support he provides—acting as an attentive listener and conversational partner without the complications of romantic involvement. “Dating is too exhausting,” many of his clients remark, preferring the emotional ease of his company.
Behind the Scenes: A Job That Requires Effort
While his role might appear straightforward, Ikoma notes the effort he invests in his appearance prior to meeting clients, including careful selection of clothing and grooming. He manages to concurrently engage with around 15 women, finding the experience fulfilling yet demanding.
Household Tasks: A Revenue Opportunity
In addition to social engagements, Ikoma takes on various household chores. Tasks such as washing dishes, mopping floors, and cleaning bathrooms contribute to his earnings; for instance, he typically makes about 160,000 yen (around US$1,100) in just three hours of work. This combination of companionship and service has proved financially advantageous for him.
A Strategic Choice in Clientele
In 2019, Ikoma shared his earning experiences with Abema TV, revealing that at one point he was servicing 15 women simultaneously. Although one client offered him a lucrative salary to be exclusive, he chose to maintain a broader clientele.
Recognizing Opportunities Early On
Ikoma’s journey into this lifestyle began at the age of 18 when he discovered an attraction from older women who showered him with gifts and monetary rewards during outings. This realization laid the groundwork for what he has since transformed into a full-time career.
Future Aspirations: Sharing the Experience
Following the trends incited by the COVID-19 pandemic, Ikoma has been vocal about his lifestyle and plans to launch a “Kept Man Training Course” aimed at men interested in following a similar career path.
