Congresswoman Nancy Mace Presses Charges After Altercation at Capitol

—
South Carolina Republican Representative Nancy Mace reported an incident on Tuesday where she was “physically accosted” on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. Following the altercation, Capitol Police apprehended an individual in connection with the incident.
“I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him. This violence and these threats only reinforce our mission. Women deserve safety; your threats will not deter me from advocating for women!” Mace stated in a post on X.
Mace mentioned an injury, saying, “Just need a new wrist brace and some ice for my arm, and it’ll heal just fine.”
In response to Mace’s account, Capitol Police confirmed they received a report shortly after 6 p.m. from a congressional office regarding an incident in the Rayburn Office Building. Officers tracked down and arrested the suspect, charging him with assaulting a government official.
Capitol Police have charged James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, with simple assault after he pleaded not guilty in DC Superior Court. He was released under a “stay away” order. According to police documentation, Mace described the suspect laying hands on her and “aggressively shaking her arm in a hand-shaking motion” for several seconds.
CNN is currently seeking to contact McIntyre’s attorney for further comment.
Mace Advocates for Legislation Against Transgender Access to Women’s Facilities
Recently, Mace stirred controversy by proposing a resolution aimed at banning transgender women from utilizing women’s restrooms at the Capitol. This legislative move follows the election of Rep. Sarah McBride from Delaware, the first openly transgender person in Congress. Additionally, Mace has introduced legislation that would extend this ban to all federal buildings and federally funded educational institutions.
Following the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade in 2022, Mace has expressed her dedication to demonstrating that the GOP is “pro-women,” a sentiment she is actively pursuing in her legislative efforts.
This evolving story will continue to unfold as new developments arise.
