Date: October 27, 2025
A Visionary Leader
Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, the former government spokesperson on Security and Governance, honored the legacy of the late Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings during an appearance on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily. He described her as a “visionary and trailblazer” who transformed women’s engagement in Ghanaian politics.
Lasting Legacy
Reflecting on her contributions, Dr. Boakye-Danquah asserted that Nana Konadu’s influence extended well beyond her tenure as First Lady. He emphasized that her efforts to empower women have left a significant mark on Ghana’s political landscape.
“We are mourning on a sad note, but also on a very triumphant journey of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings. For me, as I consider her in this Fourth Republic, I would consider her a trailblazer in Ghanaian politics,” said Dr. Boakye-Danquah.
Empowerment and Gender Equality
Dr. Boakye-Danquah highlighted Nana Konadu’s pivotal role in founding the 31st December Women’s Movement. This initiative was instrumental in advocating for women’s rights and ensuring their active participation in national development.
“Clearly, you are aware of how Nana distinguished herself as an individual beyond being the First Lady of Ghana, starting up the 31 December Movement, to affirm the fact that women have a role and a place in our Ghanaian politics,” he added.
A Void in the Fight for Gender Equity
Dr. Boakye-Danquah also acknowledged the courage and dedication that defined her commitment to social causes. He remarked on the considerable loss her passing represents in the ongoing struggle for gender equity in Ghana.
“We will miss her dearly, we will miss her fortitude, her resilience, her standing up for women’s rights, and speaking up very clearly. She has been a great example of a couple because she stood very strongly with her husband throughout the PNDC. She has been a formidable woman,” he noted.
