Upcoming Match: Monmouth Women’s Soccer vs. Charleston

Monmouth Hawks women’s soccer team is set to face Charleston on September 18, 2025, at 6 p.m. This match will serve as the Hawks’ opening game for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference play, taking place at Hesse Field.

Recent Match Review

In their last outing on Sunday, Monmouth concluded the non-conference segment of the 2025 season with a 1-1 tie against Columbia. Evangeline Perdomo scored the only goal for the Hawks, marking her first goal as a freshman. Notably, the Hawks’ defense has been impressive, conceding only two goals in their last five matches.

Match Highlights

  • First Half: The initial 15 minutes were dominated by midfield battles, with the first shot coming from Emily De Almeida in the 18th minute. Monmouth had a potential scoring chance that was nullified by an offside call against Ashley Lavrich.
  • Second Half: Monmouth found the net in the 57th minute when Perdomo capitalized on a turnover, striking from outside the box to make it 1-0. The Hawks later attempted to widen their lead but were thwarted by Columbia’s goalkeeper, Samantha Mahoney.
  • Equalizer: Columbia’s Mya Beltran leveled the score in the 77th minute after retrieving her own blocked shot.
  • Late Chances: Despite several attempts from both sides in the closing minutes, including a near miss by Monmouth’s Alex Dreihaup, the game concluded in a draw.

Coaching Insights

Head Coach Kylee Flynn commented on the match, stating, “Today’s match was a great last test for us before heading into conference play. We struggled to connect and keep possession in the first half, which limited our attack. The second half was a lot better as we made quality decisions on the ball and were able to create many chances going forward. I am proud of how much we have grown over the last few weeks and looking forward to our conference opener this Thursday.”

Key Statistics

  • Monmouth remains unbeaten in their last six matches—an impressive stat not seen since 2024.
  • This draw marks the Hawks’ first tie of the 2025 season, and their first since a 2-2 draw at Stony Brook in October 2024.
  • Evangeline Perdomo now boasts three points so far this season, making her the second highest scorer among Monmouth’s freshman players.
  • Goalkeeper Tallulah Miller has been crucial, allowing only two goals in the last five matches, a defensive performance not seen since their seven consecutive shutouts in 2023.
  • Miller recorded three saves in the match, bringing her total to 28 saves for the season and lowering her Goals Against Average (GAA) to 1.31.
  • Historically, Monmouth has an undefeated record of 5-0-1 against Columbia, with this being their first encounter since winning 2-0 in 2013.

Game Summary by the Numbers

  • Columbia: 10 shots; Monmouth: 8 shots
  • Shots on goal: Columbia: 4; Monmouth: 2
  • Corners: Columbia: 5; Monmouth: 4
  • Both teams committed five fouls during the match.
  • Columbia was penalized for offside seven times.

Looking Ahead

The Hawks are eager to transition into conference play and showcase their growth. Fans are encouraged to support the team as they return home to confront Charleston this Thursday. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Hesse Field.
