Competition Delays Impact Performance
The event experienced a delay of approximately 40 minutes due to a technical problem with the apparatus used to elevate the bar.
Attempts and Challenges
After the competition resumed, Caudery successfully cleared a height of 4.70 meters. However, she struggled with her attempts at 4.75 meters, ultimately brushing the bar on her descent despite appearing to have adequate height for a successful jump.
Expressions of Disappointment
In an interview with BBC Sport, Caudery expressed her disappointment: “I really wanted to make an impact today after last year, and I know I’m capable of achieving great things.” She noted the challenges of the competition, stating, “It was tough, with numerous issues, and at one point we waited for nearly an hour.”
Self-Reflection
Caudery reflected on her performance, saying, “I’m not blaming myself entirely. I believe I had three solid attempts at the next height, and I really felt prepared. Honestly, I feel a bit deflated after this.”
Aiming for Future Success
Last summer, Caudery missed qualifying for the Olympic final despite being a strong contender for Paris 2024, especially after achieving a personal best of 4.92 meters, breaking Holly Bradshaw’s national record.
Looking Ahead
Determined to channel her past disappointments into future victories, Caudery made a solid start to 2025 by clearing 4.85 meters in February. She chose to forgo the European Indoor Championships two weeks ago to concentrate on defending her title at this event, while managing a minor calf injury. Now, her focus shifts towards securing a gold medal at the World Championships in Tokyo this September.
