The No. 2 seed, Minnesota, triumphed in the 2025 Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament (WBIT), securing their first championship title by defeating No. 3 Belmont with a score of 75-63. Tori McKinney, a standout guard for the Golden Gophers, earned the 2025 Most Outstanding Player accolade, leading the game with 26 points.
This victory was particularly meaningful for Minnesota, providing a sense of redemption after their loss to St. Louis in the previous year’s WBIT championship.
The 2025 WBIT kicked off on Sunday, March 16, with the announcement of the 32-team lineup. Virginia Tech, James Madison, Saint Joseph’s, and Colorado were granted automatic bids as the top four seeds, emerging from the first four teams that missed out on the 2025 NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament.

How WBIT Teams Are Selected
The selection process for the WBIT includes four teams that are the first out from the NCAA Division I women’s basketball tournament, as designated by the selection committee. These teams receive automatic bids and serve as the top four seeds.
Additionally, regular-season champions from Division I conferences that did not qualify for the NCAA tournament automatically receive a bid (provided they meet eligibility criteria). The remaining spots are filled with at-large teams selected by the WBIT selection committee.
The first three rounds occur at campus sites, with the semifinals and championship hosted at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
