Minjee Lee has achieved a remarkable milestone in her golfing career by winning the Women’s PGA Championship, securing her third major title on June 22. The event took place at Fields Ranch East in PGA Frisco, Texas, where the 29-year-old Australian golfer navigated challenging conditions to finish the tournament with a final score of 4-under 284, despite a closing round of 2-over 74.
By claiming this victory, Lee joins an elite group of Australian women golfers, becoming only the third to reach three major championships, alongside legends Karrie Webb and Jan Stephenson. In this highly competitive tournament, she triumphed over fellow competitors Auston Kim and Chanettee Wannasaen, who were the only other players to complete the tournament under par, as they endured strong winds throughout the event.
Residing in nearby Irving, Texas, Lee demonstrated her resilience against the elements. As the 24th-ranked golfer in the world, her performance earned her a significant share of the $12 million purse—the largest in women’s golf, alongside the US Women’s Open—netting her $1.8 million.
Reflecting on her round, Lee acknowledged the challenges posed by the wind, stating, “It was just so tough with the wind, so just tried to take it one step at a time.” Despite recognizing some less-than-ideal drives, she emphasized her ability to manage her game effectively, minimizing mistakes and navigating through the course strategy.
Among notable competitors, Paris 2024 gold medallist Lydia Ko concluded her tournament tied for 12th place, trailing Lee by nine strokes. Top-ranked golfer Nelly Korda finished slightly behind, sharing the 19th position with another stroke less than Ko.
