MSU Women’s Golf Team Finishes Strong at Big Ten Championships

Event Overview

The Michigan State University (MSU) women’s golf team concluded a competitive performance at the Big Ten Championships, held at Bulle Rock Golf Course in Havre de Grace, Maryland. They finished in second place among 18 participating teams, showcasing their talent and determination.

Final Round Highlights

In the final round on Sunday, MSU posted a score of 5-over par 293. This solid effort came after an impressive 7-under par round of 281 in Saturday’s second round, which had allowed them to enter the final day with a three-shot advantage.

Ultimately, the University of Oregon proved formidable, carding a tournament-best 12-under par 276 during the final round to clinch the championship. Oregon’s total score of 12-under par 852 (286-290-276) secured their victory. MSU finished the tournament at 2-over par 866 (292-281-293).

Individual Performances

Leading the Spartans was senior Brooke Biermann, who finished fourth overall with a score of 3-under par 213 (72-69-72). Biermann’s resilience was evident as she made a remarkable push on the back nine, scoring three birdies, including two consecutively on holes 14 and 15, which propelled her into a tie for second place before finishing with a bogey on the final hole.

Junior Taylor Kehoe also delivered an impressive performance, tying for 10th place with an even-par score of 216 (72-71-73). Kehoe notably registered seven birdies in her last round, five of which were on the back nine.

Additional contributions came from senior Katie Lu, who tied for 15th place with a total of 2-over par 218 (72-73-73), while junior Paula Balanzategui and sophomore Ana Sofia Murcia faced challenges, finishing 40th (224) and 57th (227) respectively.

Looking Ahead

The next significant moment for the team will be the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regionals selection show, scheduled for this Wednesday. Golf Channel will broadcast the selections live at 1 PM.
