The Michigan State women’s basketball team has a rich legacy spanning over half a century, but this year’s squad has made history by achieving an incredible milestone. With an impressive 89-61 victory over DePaul, the Spartans have started the season with a perfect 9-0 record, marking the best start in the program’s illustrious history.
Coach Fralick Celebrates Milestone
Head coach Robyn Fralick expressed pride after learning about her team’s remarkable achievement. Following the game, she shared the news with her players. “As a coach, if you reflect on your schedule after nine games, I believe every coach would strive for a 9-0 record,” she noted. “While this is just one chapter in our story, it’s exactly where we aim to be.”
A Promising Season Ahead
Players on the team remain focused on their aspirations for the season, acknowledging that the strong start is just the beginning of their journey. Graduate guard Julia Ayrault expressed her excitement: “It’s truly fantastic. Coach Fralick and her staff have fostered a positive environment, which has reignited my passion for the game. Many of my teammates share that sentiment.”

Fralick credits the team’s success to the diverse skills and experiences of its players. Graduate student guard Jaddan Simmons emphasized the collaborative leadership within the team, stating, “We have captains and returning players leading, but it feels like anyone can step up, and that’s reflected in our practices.”
Continuous Improvement and Big Ten Challenges
Despite their impressive performance so far, the Spartans believe they can continue to improve. Fralick remarked, “The best teams evolve throughout the season. We’re confident that, even with many new players, our chemistry and familiarity with the system will keep growing.”
The Spartans are gearing up for their next challenge as they enter Big Ten play, facing off against Iowa, who currently boasts an 8-1 record. The match, set for next Sunday at home, is expected to be a thrilling encounter as both teams aim to assert their dominance in the conference.
