Men’s Swimming & Diving: Maritime College vs. Lehman
In a recent dual meet held at Lehman College’s APEX Swimming Pool, the Maritime College men’s swimming and diving team showcased its strength, triumphed over Lehman 144-26, securing victories in 12 of the 13 events contested.
Individual Highlights
Key individual performances came from Rowan Hayes, Matt Klimek, and Alex Osypenko, each of whom claimed two event wins. Hayes excelled in the:
- 100-yard freestyle (50.41 seconds)
- 200-yard individual medley (2:07.52)
Klimek dominated the:
- 200-yard freestyle (1:57.27)
- 500-yard freestyle (5:37.20)
Osypenko finished first in the:
- 50-yard freestyle (23.25 seconds)
- 100-yard butterfly (58.72 seconds)
Together, they teamed up with Johnny Walz to secure victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:53.04.
Additional Victories
Other noteworthy performances included Hunter Hesser-Mawson, who won the:
- 1000-yard freestyle (14:24.88)
Victor Pineda also triumphed in the:
- 100-yard backstroke (1:05.45)
The meet concluded with the relay team of Alex Anastasiades, Liam MacManus, Pineda, and Osypenko finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle relay, completing their event in 1:36.89.
Women’s Swimming: Competitive Edge
On the women’s side, the Privateers encountered a more challenging match, ultimately falling to Lehman by a narrow margin of 78-75, despite securing six event victories.
Standout Performers
Oceana Elefante emerged as the standout competitor, winning both the:
- 100-yard freestyle (1:04.89)
- 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.96)
Rebecca Kmiotek claimed victory in the:
- 200-yard freestyle (2:51.34)
Kristen Carroll finished first in the:
- 50-yard freestyle (28.20 seconds)
Emily Bryant also made her mark by winning the:
- 1000-yard freestyle (16:21.43)
Relay Success
Kmiotek and Bryant were part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team, alongside Kirsten Argueta and Madeline Powers, who recorded a time of 2:13.11. However, despite their efforts, Lehman’s performance in the relay proved decisive, granting them the three-point edge in the overall score.
Upcoming Events
Maritime College’s swimming and diving team will continue their season with a home meet against Baruch College at the Riesenberg Aquatics Center, scheduled for Wednesday at 6 p.m.
