Gustavus Women’s Golf Team Competes in St. Olaf-Carleton Invitational

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Gustavus women’s golf team kicked off its final spring tournament of the season on April 26, participating in the St. Olaf-Carleton Invitational hosted at Willingers Golf Club, which features a par 72 layout. After the first round, the Gusties sit in seventh place out of eleven teams in a competitive field that includes nine teams from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

Individual Performances

Leading the Gusties is sophomore Maren Masters from Shakopee, Minn., who is currently tied for fifth place overall. Masters finished the round with a score of seven over par (79), making her just five strokes off the leaderboard’s top position. Her performance included six pars and three birdies, notably carding a birdie on hole 17, which contributed to a strong finish for her round.

Lauren Hubbart, a junior from Hastings, Minn., follows Masters with a score of 84 (+12), placing her 22nd overall. Hubbart recorded two birdies and five pars throughout her round. Meanwhile, sophomore Riley Zebroski from Watertown, S.D., finished the day with an 88, securing a tie for 37th place. Zebroski highlighted her round with seven pars and a birdie on her opening hole.

Junior Emily Kolb from Sioux Falls, S.D., ended the day with a score of 89, placing her in a tie for 41st. The team is rounded out by Josie Raiche (So., Orono, Minn.) in 52nd place and Mary Kate Hewitt (So., Edina, Minn.) in 66th, who both participated in the tournament.

Coach’s Insights

Head coach Scott Moe ’95 reflected on the challenges posed by Willingers Golf Course, stating, “Willinger is a challenging golf course to score well on. With that being said, you still need to avoid big numbers and three-putts. A few of the challenging holes we let get to us and made some bigger numbers, I think tomorrow we will be able to clean that up and be in much better shape.” Moe also expressed optimism for Masters’ performance, looking forward to a strong ending for all seven players competing.

Looking Ahead

The Gustavus women’s golf team is set to resume competition on April 27, with the second round scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. at Willingers Golf Club.
