Macalester Women’s Soccer Achieves Victory Over Bethel
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women’s soccer team celebrated a decisive victory in a non-conference match against Bethel University, securing a 5-0 win on Thursday evening at John Leaney Field within Macalester Stadium. With this win, the Scots improved their record to 3-1, marking their third shutout of the season, while Bethel dropped to 0-4-1.
Match Overview
The scoring began early in the game when junior forward Adi Nhouyvanisvong (Wayzata, Minn./Minnetonka) executed a free kick just over three minutes into the match. The ball reached junior midfielder Abbey Birkey (Grand Rapids, Minn./Grand Rapids), whose deft deflection sent it past Bethel’s goalkeeper, Abby Wright.
In the 28th minute, Nhouyvanisvong found the back of the net again, this time with a powerful shot from 25 yards out after receiving a pass from first-year player Nisha Wetter (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century), extending the Scots’ lead to 2-0.
The Scots continued to dominate, and before the first half concluded, first-year midfielder Evelyn Savoie (Northbridge, Mass./Marianopolis Preparatory School) assisted forward Mikayla Edmunds (Falls Church, Va./Georgetown Visitation), resulting in a goal from 18 yards out and bringing the score to 3-0.
Second Half Highlights
After halftime, the Scots maintained their aggressive play. Less than ten minutes in, sophomore forward Erica Hamilton (Los Angeles, Calif./Palisades Charter) set up first-year forward Lindsay Edmonson (North Kingstown, R.I./LaSalle Academy) in the penalty area, who skillfully dribbled to the center and scored from 15 yards away, making it 4-0.
The Scots capped off their scoring in the 86th minute when Edmonson assisted Hamilton for a one-timer right in front of the goal, sealing the match at 5-0.
