Rikki’s: San Francisco’s First Women’s Sports Bar Opens in the Castro
Inauguration Celebrated by Community Leaders
On a vibrant Tuesday evening, San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie marked the opening of Rikki’s, the city’s first-ever women’s sports bar. With a spirited “Let’s go San Francisco!” he participated in a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event that drew attention to this unique addition to the Castro District.
Creating a Space for Women’s Sports Fans
Co-owners Sara Yergovich and Danielle Thoe envision Rikki’s as a vital community hub for sports enthusiasts across the Bay Area. Speaking at a private gathering attended by supporters and staff, they highlighted the importance of this new venue for fostering a supportive environment for fans of women’s sports.
A Solution to a Common Problem
Situated at 2223 Market St., Rikki’s aims to address a significant gap identified by its founders. Yergovich and Thoe experienced challenges finding reliable locations to watch their favorite women’s sporting events. This realization inspired them to create an inclusive space where viewing women’s sports is not just accessible but celebrated.
“It should not be this hard to watch women’s sports,” said Yergovich. “So Danielle and I thought, why don’t we do something about it?”
Community Impact and Future Plans
Rikki’s aspires to cultivate a welcoming community atmosphere, drawing in sports fans looking for a dedicated space to enjoy women’s athletics. With its unique focus, the bar is poised to become a meaningful venue in the local sports culture, potentially influencing how women’s sports are perceived and supported in the future.
