Youngstown State Welcomes Lizzie Saur as Graduate Assistant Coach
Youngstown State University’s women’s golf program has announced the appointment of Lizzie Saur as a graduate assistant coach. This announcement was made by Head Coach Nate Miklos on Monday, marking a new chapter in Saur’s career following her impressive tenure as a student-athlete with the Penguins.
A Record-Setting Career
Saur showcased exceptional talent throughout her four-year collegiate career, participating in every tournament during her time at YSU. She set a program record with a total of 104 rounds played, and her 77.8 career scoring average ranks as the eighth-lowest in YSU history. Her achievements include being named a two-time Second-Team All-Horizon League selection and earning the title of WGCA All-American Scholar on four occasions.
Highlights of the Final Season
During her senior year (2024-25), Saur made valuable contributions by competing in all 11 tournaments and completing 28 rounds of play. She maintained an impressive strokes-per-round average of 77.3, highlighted by a standout low round of 71. Her performance earned her a Second-Team All-Horizon League designation, along with Horizon League All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition. Notably, she achieved four top-10 finishes and seven top-25 results.
Consistency Throughout Her Years
In her junior season (2023-24), Saur continued to excel by participating in 11 tournaments and averaging a career-best 76.6 strokes per round, again recording a low round of 71. Her contributions were recognized when she received Second-Team All-Horizon League honors and was named Horizon League Women’s Golfer of the Week on February 15. As a sophomore (2022-23), she participated in all 12 tournaments while maintaining a 79.3 strokes-per-round average with a career-low round of 69. Additionally, she competed in 12 tournaments as a freshman (2021-22), averaging 78.3 strokes per round and registering a low round of 73.
High School Achievements
Before joining the collegiate ranks, Saur was an accomplished player at Grove City High School. She earned the title of Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year for two consecutive years (2019 and 2020) and was selected for the first-team all-conference in her last three seasons. Saur also received second-team all-district honors in 2018 before moving on to first-team recognition in 2019 and 2020. In 2019, she earned second-team all-state accolades and made history as Grove City’s first female state qualifier by scoring 78 in the district tournament.
Academic Background
Saur graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in May 2025. Her academic achievements complemented her stellar athletic career, underscoring her commitment both on and off the course.
