ArtistsPlus Productions is set to stage “Little Women Ballet” at the historic Pasadena Playhouse in June, marking the return of this full-length classical ballet inspired by Louisa May Alcott’s cherished novel. Directed by choreographer Emma Andres, it captures the essence of the March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—as they navigate life’s emotional landscape during a pivotal era.
This revival comes on the heels of community efforts to recover from the Eaton Fire, which devastated costumes and props. With renewed determination, “Little Women Ballet” promises a blend of original choreography and Victorian-era music, aimed at delivering a memorable performance for audiences of all ages.
A Celebration of Women’s Narratives
Emma Andres, a resident choreographer at Pasadena Civic Ballet and a UC Irvine graduate, designed “Little Women Ballet” to emphasize narratives centered on women. Her choreography aims to showcase the strength and resilience of female figures in literature and history, offering empowering stories for young audiences.

The ballet incorporates compositions by Daniel Robbins alongside classical pieces by Brahms and Debussy, enhancing key narrative moments such as Jo’s heartbreak, Beth’s poignant farewell, and the whimsical meetings of the Pickwick Club.
Performance Schedule and Ticket Details
“Little Women Ballet” will unfold over two acts with performances scheduled for:
- Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
- Sunday, June 22 at 2 p.m.
Tickets range in price from $42 to $49 and can be purchased through the Pasadena Playhouse website. The venue’s address is 39 S El Molino Avenue, Pasadena, CA 91101.

A Diverse Cast of Talents
This production features a diverse ensemble of 35 to 40 dancers, ranging in age from 10 to 75. Clad in authentic 19th-century attire, these performers undergo rigorous training in classical techniques and character development, enriching their portrayals.
Enhancing Community Engagement
Beyond the ballet, “Little Women Ballet” represents a broader movement featuring immersive experiences at the Heritage Square Museum in Los Angeles and open ballet classes at Pasadena Civic Ballet. An engaging Victorian folk dance finale allows the audience to join the cast in celebration following each performance.
