Pacific Cross Country Shines at Invitational
The Pacific cross country teams delivered impressive performances during the Pacific Invitational held at Micke Grove Golf Course in Lodi, California. The women’s team notched a first-place finish, while the men secured the second position overall.
Women’s Team Triumphs
Leading the way for the women’s team, sophomore Angelina Lione took charge in the 6K race, helping the Tigers achieve their first team title at the Pacific Invitational since at least 2009.
“I’m happy with the efforts from both teams, especially for the women to win the race and do it in a controlling fashion,” stated Pacific head coach Isaac Wood. “I really thought they did exactly what I wanted them to do.”
Lione completed the race in a remarkable time of 21:37.0, which is not only a personal best for her but also ranks among the top five fastest finishes in Pacific history, improving her previous record by nearly 30 seconds.
“I felt pretty good,” Lione remarked. “I felt the community was really cheering me on the whole time. It felt great to have that extra support.”
In addition to Lione’s standout performance, sophomore Alix Crawford finished in second place individually, clocking in at 22:03.1. Freshmen Emma Schmutz (22:17.5) and Daphne Iosua (22:32.6) also contributed to the team’s success by finishing within the top five scoring positions. Overall, the women’s team had an impressive seven runners place within the top ten, accumulating a total of 21 points and defeating notable competitors such as UC Santa Cruz and Cal State East Bay.
Men’s Team Performance
In the men’s division, the Tigers finished as runners-up in their 8K race with a total score of 43 points, behind Santa Clara.
Sophomore Kohl Sanders led the charge for the men’s team, achieving the fastest 8K time in Pacific history at 25:18.4. Close on his heels, freshman Daniel Judd recorded a personal best of 25:21.8, securing a commendable second position.
Junior Samuel Lanham and sophomore Jack Weber also made their presence felt by finishing within the top 15, both delivering strong performances under the 26-minute mark.
Upcoming Events
Looking to the future, the Tigers will compete in their final regular season event at the Bronco Invitational on October 18, hosted by Santa Clara in the Bay Area.
