Mizzou Women’s Golf Dominates Day One at the Sam Golden Invitational
The Mizzou women’s golf team kicked off their season on a high note at the Sam Golden Invitational, concluding the first day in a commanding lead. Freshman sensation Ebba Liljeberg made headlines with an outstanding second round performance, carding an 11-under 61, which ties the NCAA record for the lowest round in relation to par.
Throughout her initial 36 holes as a Tiger, Liljeberg achieved an impressive 18 birdies, with only a single bogey marking her scorecard. Heading into the final round, she leads the 72-person field by nine strokes, having started with an impressive first-round score of 66, setting a new program record for freshmen. Her phenomenal follow-up in round two not only tied the national record but also shattered Mizzou’s single-round record by four strokes.
Liljeberg’s momentum was palpable as she began the day with a birdie and continued her streak by starting the second 18 holes with six consecutive birdies.
Support from Team Members
Notable contributions came from seniors Addie Dobson and Melanie Walker, both finishing the day within the top 25 and under par. Dobson delivered a solid performance with a four-under 68 in the second round, placing her 12th overall, while Walker finished the opening round with a three-under 69, landing her in 22nd place.
Team Performance
As a unit, the Tigers ended the day at 24-under par, buoyed by a round-one score of 281 followed by a remarkable 271 in round two. They hold a six-shot lead going into the final round, which will be a shotgun start scheduled for 8 a.m. CT on Tuesday.
