Massachusetts Hotel Faces Discrimination Complaint Over Guest Treatment
BOSTON (WHDH) – The Liberty Hotel is currently under scrutiny following a complaint filed with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination regarding an incident involving two guests.
Incident Details
According to reports, the incident occurred when a female guest was approached by a male security guard while using the hotel’s restroom. The guard requested to see identification to verify the woman’s gender. After complying and presenting their IDs, both guests were reportedly escorted from the premises.
Response from the Victims
One of the women involved, Ansley Baker, expressed a desire to hold the hotel accountable, stating, “I’d like the hotel to be held accountable for what they did. And I would like to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone at that hotel.” Baker’s attorney, Lenny Kesten, condemned the actions of the hotel staff, arguing, “They tolerated this behavior for two days at least or more. If you’re a friend of this community, you don’t tolerate one of your employees going into the bathroom to check the gender of a customer.”
Hotel’s Official Statement
In response to the allegations, the Liberty Hotel conducted an internal review of the incident. They acknowledged the inappropriate conduct of the employee involved, stating, “We concluded that the employee was in the wrong and his actions were well beyond regrettable. No guest of ours should ever be treated in a manner that is anything other than respectful and welcoming.”
Conclusion
The ongoing complaint highlights the importance of respectful and non-discriminatory treatment of all guests in public accommodations. As the situation develops, further responses from both the hotel and the legal representatives of the guests are anticipated.
