Ladki Bahin Scheme: Empowering Women in Maharashtra
The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, commonly referred to as the Ladki Bahin scheme, was initiated in June 2024 with a focus on fostering financial independence among women in Maharashtra. Under this welfare program, registered and eligible women receive a monthly assistance of ₹1,500.
Current Beneficiary Statistics
As per Maharashtra Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare’s statement in August 2025, the scheme currently caters to over 2.3 crore eligible beneficiaries. However, it has also come to light that approximately 26.34 lakh individuals have been identified as ineligible beneficiaries, with some including men, necessitating further scrutiny by district authorities.
Mandatory e-KYC Process
To continue receiving benefits under the Ladki Bahin scheme, all beneficiaries are required to complete an electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) process. This mandatory requirement was announced in September 2025, providing a two-month window for compliance.
Extension Due to Floods
In light of adverse conditions from floods affecting the state, the Maharashtra government extended the deadline by 15 days, now set to conclude on November 18, 2025.
How to Complete the e-KYC
Beneficiaries can complete the e-KYC process through the official portal at ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in. It is important to note that this verification must be performed annually to maintain eligibility for the monthly assistance.
Status Update on e-KYC Completion
As of October 2025, the minister reported that around 1.10 crore women, representing approximately 90% of applicants, have successfully completed their e-KYC. The administration is focused on overcoming any technical or logistical issues that may hinder eligible women from completing this process.
Consequences of Inaction
Failure to complete the e-KYC process within the stipulated timeframe will result in the withholding of monthly financial assistance. Moreover, if Aadhaar authentication is not completed, the benefits will similarly be suspended.
Eligibility Criteria for the Ladki Bahin Scheme
The scheme is specifically designed for women between the ages of 21 and 65 years with an annual income below ₹2.5 lakh. Furthermore, beneficiaries must not be enrolled in any other government assistance program.
Conclusion
The Ladki Bahin scheme represents a significant step towards empowering women in Maharashtra by offering much-needed financial support. Compliance with the e-KYC process is essential for beneficiaries wishing to ensure continuous support under this program.
