MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – The Central Michigan University women’s golf team is set to commence the 2025-26 season by hosting the A-Ga-Ming Invitational at the A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort in Kewadin, located just north of Traverse City. This event marks the team’s fifth consecutive year opening the season at this prestigious tournament, which runs over the Labor Day Weekend and comprises 54 holes.
Season Kickoff at A-Ga-Ming
As the host for this annual tournament featuring 12 teams, the Chippewas are eager to showcase their skills on a course known for its challenging layout. “We are eager to get started and very excited about the schedule,” remarked head coach Ryan Williams, who is entering his fourth year with the team. “Hosting at A-Ga-Ming is a great way to kick it off; the venue is awesome, and the event is always a great test to start the year.”
Upcoming Tournaments
The Chippewas will compete in a total of 11 tournaments throughout the 2025-26 season, culminating in the Mid-American Conference Championship at Firestone Country Club in Kent, Ohio, in April. Some notable events include:
- The Canadian Collegiate Invitational at Beacon Hall Golf Club in Aurora, Ontario.
- Tournaments hosted by Notre Dame and at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.
- A trip to Arizona for additional competition.
- The second annual Motor City Matchup, co-hosted with the CMU men’s team at Birmingham Country Club.
Highlighting New Opportunities
Williams expressed pride regarding the upcoming Canadian Collegiate Women’s Invitational, stating, “We are honored to have been asked to play in the first Canadian Collegiate Women’s Invitational. That will be the strongest field that we have ever played in as a program.” He also emphasized that capping off the fall season at Birmingham would be a special experience for the team.
Returning Talent
The Chippewas are returning four of their five starters from the previous season, including standout sophomore Ella Zanatta. Last season, Zanatta led the team with an impressive average score of 76.04, earning Second Team All-MAC honors. Her performance included securing medalist honors in one tournament and a tie for first in another, before ultimately losing in a playoff. Zanatta was the top finisher for CMU in five of their eleven tournaments.
Conclusion
With a robust schedule ahead and a talented roster, the Central Michigan women’s golf team is poised for an exciting and competitive season.
