Kutztown Women’s Swimming Team Excels in PSAC Tri-Meet

KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women’s swimming team showcased its talent during a recent tri-meet against Bloomsburg and Edinboro, achieving several Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times. This event marked significant improvements for the team, particularly for standout swimmer Julia Kopcho.

Notable Performances

Julia Kopcho, representing Pemberton, N.J., set a new personal best in the 500 Freestyle, clocking in at 5:12.35. This performance not only topped her previous best of 5:13.65 from the prior week but also placed her among the top times in the history of Kutztown swimming.

Kopcho wasn’t alone in her achievements; a total of seven Golden Bears secured PSAC qualifying marks, demonstrating the depth and competitive spirit of the team:

  • Sara Bing (Newtown, Pa.)
  • Ana Soto (Hamburg, N.J.)
  • Frannie Pease-Wingenter (Goodyear, Ariz.)
  • Phoebe Armes (Somerset, UK)
  • Sarah Zeminski (West Chester, Pa.)
  • Tatum Rothermel (Halifax, Pa.)

Event Highlights

In addition to her 500 Free victory, Kopcho earned a qualifying time in the 200 Individual Medley (IM). Other noteworthy performances included:

  • Annamarie Rodier took first in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 11:11.35.
  • Ana Soto and Frannie Pease-Wingenter both achieved PSAC marks in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events.
  • Phoebe Armes secured qualifying times in both the 200 IM and 100 Backstroke.

Meet Results Summary

The overall results of the meet were:

  • Bloomsburg: 135.5 – Kutztown: 68.5
  • Edinboro: 112 – Kutztown: 92

Kutztown’s Next Challenge

The Golden Bears will be back in action on Saturday, November 8th, as they face another PSAC competitor, Millersville, starting at 1 p.m.

500 Freestyle

  • 1st – Julia Kopcho: 5:12.35 (PSAC Qualifying)
  • 4th – Annamarie Rodier: 5:28.73
  • 8th – Camryn Sedora: 5:43.72

200 Freestyle

  • 5th – Sara Bing: 2:01.19 (PSAC Qualifying)
  • 7th – Sarah Zeminski: 2:02.46

Other Notable Events

  • 100 Freestyle: 2nd – Ana Soto (54.84, PSAC Qualifying)
  • 100 Backstroke: 3rd – Phoebe Armes (1:01.70, PSAC Qualifying)
  • 100 IM: 3rd – Sarah Zeminski (1:00.73, PSAC Qualifying)
