Kourtney Kardashian Barker’s Unique Postpartum Journey
Following the arrival of her son, Rocky Thirteen Barker, in November 2023, Kourtney Kardashian Barker decided to embrace a new approach to motherhood that diverges from her experiences with her older children, Mason, Penelope, and Reign, whom she shares with ex-partner Scott Disick.
In an exclusive conversation with Women’s Health, Kourtney expressed, “This time around, I feel significantly more in tune with my body. I’ve granted myself the grace and the permission to take my time.” This mindfulness comes after a challenging journey that included “five failed IVF cycles and three retrievals” before she and her husband, Travis Barker, conceived Rocky naturally. Following this pregnancy—which also required urgent fetal surgery—Kourtney prioritized listening to her body rather than rushing back to fitness routines prematurely.
Daily Walks as a Foundation
Kourtney made walking a cornerstone of her daily routine as she wasn’t ready to engage in high-intensity workouts until about a year postpartum. She incorporated one or two walks each day, acknowledging the numerous benefits of walking, which include mood enhancement, weight management, disease prevention, and even increased longevity.
“There are days when I walk up to four miles,” she shares. “This morning, I took a walk. I truly enjoy family walks; they’re even better when shared with friends.”
Intense Workouts with Travis
Once Rocky reached his first birthday, Kourtney felt prepared to amp up her workout regimen alongside Travis. “It’s something we always did together, even before our relationship,” she reminisces. They engage in three strength training sessions and one to two Pilates classes each week.
She is quick to highlight that much of her day revolves around motherhood, making workout time with Travis particularly cherished. She intertwines workouts with parenting, setting intentions before hitting the gym. “Before I go in, I say something like, ‘Okay, Mommy’s going to get strong,’ which gives me a purpose beyond mere aesthetics,” she explains.
Postpartum Nutrition and Supplements
While currently breastfeeding Rocky, Kourtney hasn’t introduced extra vitamins or supplements beyond her usual postnatal regimen. However, she has plans to incorporate Lemme Tone, a new supplement featuring methylated B12, apple cider vinegar, and ginger, designed to enhance metabolism, preserve muscle mass, and manage cravings once she concludes breastfeeding. “It aims to help lose fat while maintaining muscle. I look forward to trying it when my journey is complete… perhaps in ten years!”
The Importance of Breakfast
Kourtney always fuels her body with a nutritious breakfast before workouts, opting for a vegan protein shake made by Travis or a slice of protein toast topped with almond butter and banana slices. She also enjoys sipping bone broth during the morning carpool, praised for its multitude of vitamins, minerals, joint health benefits, and digestive support. “That’s my superpower!” she exclaims, sharing a light-hearted moment about her routine.
Despite not being vegan herself, Kourtney often follows Travis’s lifestyle during their date nights and family dinners, which lean towards plant-based dishes.
Prioritizing Strength and Well-Being
Kourtney has repeatedly emphasized the importance of self-compassion in her postpartum journey. Last year, she shared a poignant message on social media about the significance of “kindness to yourself” through a nourishing diet and the necessity of gradually easing back into fitness. “For me, it’s more about health, strength, energy, and feeling my best rather than conforming to a certain look,” she affirms.
She maintains a focus on positive self-talk and how it impacts her children. “Being a role model for them is incredibly important,” Kourtney says. “How I speak to myself shapes their understanding of self-love and body image.” Kourtney’s journey is one of resilience, reflection, and authentic self-care, crafted for her and her family’s well-being.
