Punjab Women Detained While Protesting Near AAP Leader’s Residence
A group of women from Punjab was apprehended on Saturday during a protest outside the home of Aam Aadmi Party’s national convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, in Delhi. These women voiced their discontent over the AAP’s unfulfilled promise of financial assistance to women in Punjab.
As they shared their concerns with the media, the protestors condemned what they labeled as dishonest political practices. One woman, amid her detention, urged, “Do not deceive the women of Delhi as you did with the women of Punjab.” This unrest follows Kejriwal’s announcement of the ‘Mukhya Mantri Mahila Samman Yojana’ intended for residents of Delhi, which promised a monthly aid of Rs 2100 to women. However, government officials later stated that this scheme had not been officially notified.
The situation further intensified when reports emerged about unauthorized parties gathering personal information under the guise of scheme registrations. Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi accused the BJP of exerting undue pressure on officials, leading to a probing investigation initiated by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor into these troubling claims. With assembly elections approaching, the political atmosphere in Delhi remains charged.
