Black and Boujee Awards
One of the event’s highlights was the presentation of the Black and Boujee Awards. This recognition celebrated five local Black women for their outstanding cultural, social, and entrepreneurial influence in Rochester.
Vision for Community Spaces
Nicholas Fitts, the owner of TRUTH Lounge, spoke about the importance of establishing safe spaces for social interaction. “I think it’s important to have places where you can come and socialize and be in a safe environment,” he stated. Fitts emphasized a proactive approach, noting, “rather than complain about the problems we have here why not come back and be a solution.”
Cultural Celebration
The evening was further animated by performances from two DJs, who played a selection of music from the ’90s, 2000s, and beyond. This entertainment aimed to uplift guests and highlight Black excellence within the Rochester community.
Overall, the event not only served as a precursor to the official opening of TRUTH but also as a testament to the resilient spirit and contributions of Black women in the region.
