Fitness for Every Woman

At Women’s Health, we hold a fundamental belief that fitness should be accessible to everyone. This principle is central to our mission and drives our initiatives across the brand.

The Challenge of Diversity in Fitness

Despite our commitment, the fitness industry grapples with significant issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Numerous barriers—including educational and financial challenges—hinder many individuals from becoming fitness professionals. Stereotypical notions about who can participate in fitness perpetuate systemic problems such as racism, homophobia, ageism, and sexism. These issues prevent talented trainers from marginalized communities from building successful careers and limit their ability to provide enjoyable fitness experiences to their local clients. It’s time for this to change, and Women’s Health aims to be part of the solution.

Introducing the Strength in Diversity Initiative

We are excited to announce the WH and MH Strength in Diversity Initiative. You can apply for this opportunity here. This program is designed to empower trainers from underrepresented communities by connecting them with elite fitness professionals. Applicants are encouraged to submit either an essay or a video, detailing their career ambitions and motivations for joining the program. Those selected will represent diverse regions, communities, and socioeconomic backgrounds across the country.

Program Details

Participants chosen for this initiative will engage in an intensive 11-week program, commencing on April 11, which includes:

  • Each trainer will receive the guidance of a mentor, who will conduct weekly half-hour calls. These sessions will cover essential topics including program development, branding, educational resources, workout design, and support for key certification studies.

  • Participants will attend weekly Zoom clinics focused on creating engaging video and social media content, understanding the crucial role of nutrition in fitness, and coaching techniques for athletes.

  • All trainers will have the chance to earn certifications from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and Precision Nutrition.

Empowering Change in Local Communities

Our goal is for these trainers to disseminate their newly acquired knowledge within their communities, fostering engaging and effective training programs that contribute to improved fitness and overall health. This initiative is open to trainers and aspiring trainers globally, with applications due by February 28, 2024. Together, let’s cultivate strength and empowerment in fitness!
