JKT Queens Claim Victory in CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Qualifiers
Tanzania’s JKT Queens have emerged victorious in the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA qualifiers for 2025, marking a significant achievement in their football history.
The Decisive Match
The final, held at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya, saw JKT Queens defeat Rayon Sports WFC from Rwanda. A goal from Winfrida Gerald just five minutes into the match proved decisive for the Tanzanian team. Although Rayon Sports WFC attempted to equalize in the second half, they were unable to penetrate the solid defense of JKT Queens.
Strategic Play
Throughout the match, JKT Queens adopted a strategy focused on counterattacks and quick transitions. Their defensive organization and resilience were key factors in their success, allowing them to maintain their lead against the Rwandan side.
Coach’s Perspective
Azishi Kondo, the head coach of JKT Queens, expressed his confidence ahead of the match. “We came here to lift the title and the mission is now accomplished. I thank the players and staff for the hard work,” he stated, reflecting on the team’s preparation and dedication leading to their successful campaign.
Historical Significance
This victory marks the second regional title for JKT Queens, having previously lifted the trophy in 2023. With this win, they are the only team to have secured the CECAFA title twice, surpassing Vihiga Queens, Simba Queens, and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia, each of whom has one title to their name.
