Ireland Women Penalized for Slow Over-Rate in ODI Against India
In a recent development during the ICC Women’s Championship series, Ireland’s women cricket team has been penalized with a 10 percent deduction from their match fees due to a slow over-rate in the third One Day International against India, held in Rajkot on Wednesday.
Match Referee’s Decision
The fine was imposed by G S Lakshmi, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, after it was determined that Ireland fell short by two overs of the required target, even after accounting for time allowances.
ICC Code of Conduct Application
This sanction is in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which addresses offences related to maintaining a minimum over-rate. Under this provision, teams are fined five percent of their match fees for every over missed within the allocated time.
Captain’s Admission
Ireland’s captain, Gaby Lewis, accepted responsibility for the team’s slow over-rate and acknowledged the proposed sanction, negating the need for a formal hearing.
Umpiring Team’s Role
The on-field umpires, Kim Cotton and Akshay Totre, along with third umpire Virender Sharma and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi, were responsible for leveling the charge that led to the fine.
