Connectivity Issues Affecting iPhone 18 Pro Max Users on AT&T
A hardware issue has surfaced within a limited number of iPhone 18 Pro Max devices, primarily affecting users
on the AT&T network. Apple has acknowledged the problem, which impedes users from making calls or maintaining
stable cell service.
In a statement released on October 2, Apple informed 9to5Mac about the ongoing issue, stating that they
would provide a resolution for affected customers. Instances of disrupted connections, which some users
have encountered since the device’s launch, include phones stuck in “SOS mode,” indicating a lack of
cellular data.
Customer Notification and Recommendations
Recently, AT&T reached out to its customers via text messages, alerting them to these connectivity issues.
The message noted potential impacts on users’ ability to contact emergency services, urging them to ensure
that their devices are updated to the latest version of Apple’s iOS.
Despite this recommendation, reports from numerous customers indicate that many continue to experience
reception difficulties. Some analysts speculate these problems may stem from the Qualcomm modem in the
U.S. version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max, whereas other models such as the iPhone 18 Pro and Duo employ Apple’s
in-house C2 modem.
Next Steps for Affected Users
For individuals experiencing service outages, Apple has indicated that they may qualify for a hardware
replacement. Affected customers are encouraged to reach out to either Apple or AT&T for assistance,
depending on where the device was purchased. Assistance is also available at physical locations of both
companies.
Maintaining Service on Your AT&T Device
Users of the iPhone 18 Pro Max who still have active service with AT&T should update their software as soon
as possible. Apple suggests that updating to iOS version 27.0.1 might reduce the likelihood of further
service interruptions, although it does not guarantee the restoration of service that has already been lost.
Additionally, Apple is rolling out a carrier update specifically for AT&T users, which will be performed
automatically within the next two weeks. Users can opt to check for and apply this update manually
through their device’s settings.
