Iowa Women’s Basketball Kicks Off Summer Practices
This past weekend marked an exciting time for the Iowa women’s basketball program as they welcomed their new class of recruits and commenced summer practices on Sunday. The team is gearing up for the 2025-26 season after finishing the previous year with a 10-8 record in the Big Ten and an overall record of 23-11.
Building on Last Season’s Momentum
Following a strong finish, where the Hawkeyes recorded an impressive 11 wins and only 3 losses in their final 15 games, the team is looking to build on this momentum. Although the last season ended with a disappointing exit in the second round of the NCAA Tournament against Oklahoma, head coach Jan Jensen is keen on leveraging last year’s experiences to propel the team forward.
Introducing New Faces
Among the fresh talent joining the team this summer is five-star guard Addie Deal, along with fellow guards Jouney Houston and Chazadi ‘Chit-Chat’ Wright, as well as center Layla Hayes. Chit-Chat Wright is particularly notable, being the only transfer with prior collegiate experience, having played at Georgia Tech last season.
Learning from Challenges
Last season brought several challenges for the Hawkeyes, including adjusting to a new coach, navigating conference expansions, and dealing with unexpected injuries. The team recognizes these obstacles as valuable learning opportunities. They are hopeful that the lessons learned will contribute to regaining their competitive edge within the conference and nationally.
Looking Ahead
As summer progresses and the fall approaches, excitement is building for what promises to be another memorable season for the Hawkeyes. The dedication shown during these summer practices will be critical as they prepare to return to the court with a recharged spirit and a stronger lineup.
