Man Sentenced for Secretly Recording Women in New Jersey
In a troubling case out of Ocean County, New Jersey, a 59-year-old man from Matawan has received a five-year prison sentence for secretly filming women, including a 16-year-old girl, with a hidden camera placed in a bathroom in Brick Township. The individual, Michael Mattina, also disseminated the videos online.
Details of the Sentencing
On January 3, 2025, Michael Mattina was sentenced to five years in state prison along with a five-year period of parole ineligibility. This sentence follows his guilty plea in July of the previous year for the distribution of child pornography. Additionally, he received a concurrent four-year sentence for pleading guilty to invasion of privacy charges.
Investigation Findings
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer provided insights into the investigation, revealing that Mattina had recorded six female victims—one of whom was a minor—using a concealed camera. The investigation uncovered that Mattina not only filmed these women without their consent but also shared at least two of the recordings on adult websites.
Previous Charges and Consequences
Law enforcement first charged Mattina in August 2020 with invasion of privacy and distributing obscene materials. As investigations progressed, he faced further charges, including endangering the welfare of a child and distributing child pornography, among other offenses.
Lifetime Registration as a Sex Offender
In addition to his prison sentence, Mattina is mandated to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law for the remainder of his life, ensuring that his actions have long-term consequences.
