The International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA) has recently undergone a significant rebranding to better represent its ongoing evolution within the aerospace industry. Now known as the International Aerospace Women’s Association, this esteemed organization aims to expand its mission of advancing female leadership throughout the global aerospace sector.
Embracing a New Identity and Expanded Vision
As part of this initiative, IAWA has achieved 501(c)(3) status in the United States. This designation will enable the organization to receive tax-deductible donations, thereby enhancing its ability to fund critical research, scholarships, and executive development programs.
“Our program has transformed, our focus has shifted towards public service, and our eligibility for grants has significantly increased,” remarked Connie Avery, IAWA’s Vice President of Development and Memberships.
Fostering an Inclusive and Structured Future
Founded in 1988, IAWA is proud to represent nearly 500 members across 36 countries. The renaming is a testament to its dedication to serving the entire aerospace community, going beyond commercial aviation alone.
“Our primary mission is to empower women into leadership roles within the aerospace industry,” stated Debra Santos, IAWA President and former executive at Boeing.
To enhance global cooperation and deepen member interaction, IAWA has reorganized its framework. The association is transitioning from industry-based committees to a more regional and multifunctional committee model. Furthermore, new Communities of Interest have been established, offering dedicated spaces for professionals with common goals to share insights, support one another, and create robust networks.
“This new model provides each committee with a clearer, more focused vision, enhancing their productivity,” explained Keren Rambow, IAWA’s Vice President of Membership.
Through these transformative changes, IAWA is keen to solidify its position as a leading advocate for diversity in the aerospace sector, reaffirming its commitment to cultivating women leaders in this critical industry that plays a vital role in the global economy.
