Kasaragod Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer to Defraud Women
A man from Kasaragod has been apprehended by police for allegedly deceiving multiple women by masquerading as a police officer. The accused, identified as 38-year-old Sasidhara from Bovikanam, was arrested following complaints filed by several women from the Aluva area.
Modus Operandi
According to the police, Sasidhara would dress in khaki pants and shoes to create the illusion of being a law enforcement official. He introduced himself as “Kiran,” claiming to be assigned to the Aluva police station. Targeting middle-aged women visiting government offices and courts, he would collect their contact information under false pretenses.
Methods of Deception
Once he established contact through phone calls and social media, Sasidhara cultivated relationships with the women and subsequently requested financial assistance. Reports indicate that:
- A woman from Chendamangalam transferred approximately Rs 1.98 lakh to him after knowing him for over a year.
- Another victim, who met him a few months prior, lost Rs 30,000 along with a gold chain.
When the victims sought the return of their funds, Sasidhara reportedly refused and resorted to threats. This prompted a number of affected women to seek police intervention, leading to a comprehensive investigation.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigation revealed that Sasidhara had reportedly scammed several other women using similar tactics. Despite identifying additional victims, many chose not to file formal complaints, according to police statements. Sasidhara had relocated to Ernakulam a few years back in search of employment and had misled his family and friends into believing he was working in the film industry.
Legal Proceedings
Following his arrest, Sasidhara was released on bail. The police are urging other potential victims to come forward and report any similar incidents, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in tackling such fraudulent activities.
This case serves as a reminder to remain vigilant against scams, especially those that exploit trust and authority.
