The No. 19 Colorado College women’s lacrosse team celebrated its third consecutive victory with an impressive 18-7 win over Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee.
Leading the charge for the Tigers was sophomore Charlotte Iler, who achieved a career-high of six goals, contributing a total of seven points along with an assist. Her dynamic performance was a key factor in the team’s success.
CC outperformed the Lynx with 26 shots compared to their 18, showcasing not just Iler’s prowess, but also a strong team effort as several players netted multiple goals. Sophomore Sofia Mancino made a notable impact by scoring a season-high of three goals and matching her career-best with six points, thanks to three assists. Senior Peyton Murphy also shone brightly, securing a hat trick along with an assist.
Freshman Riley Sterling played a significant role as well, achieving a career-high of three points with two goals and an assist.
The match began with the teams trading goals in the first five minutes, but the Tigers quickly surged ahead, scoring five unanswered goals in just three minutes. Iler opened the scoring for CC with her first three goals, followed by Sterling’s first goal with 9:00 left on the clock, which put the Tigers up 4-1. Sophomore Meilani Molina finished off this run with a goal, assisted by Oliv Janerico.
Before the end of the first quarter, Iler and Murphy each found the back of the net again, giving CC an 8-2 lead as they headed into the second quarter.
The Tigers continued to build their lead, netting six more goals before halftime, starting with Mancino’s back-to-back goals, showcasing her scoring talent for the second consecutive game. Murphy capitalized on a woman-up opportunity at 8:19 remaining, and Mancino added her third goal, extending the Tigers’ lead to 13-3 with five minutes left. Junior Grace Bean also contributed to the scoring before the break, propelling CC to a 14-4 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, with a running clock, the Tigers maintained their distance from the Lynx, with contributions from junior Tobin Lonergan and sophomore Meghan Collins, who scored her first of the season.
Murphy completed her hat trick in the fourth quarter, and Sterling added her second goal as the Tigers celebrated their 18-7 triumph.
Molina and Ella Ros led the squad with three draw controls each, while Hannah Sweeney made a notable defensive contribution, gathering a career-best four ground balls, which topped the team’s stats. In goal, Cassidy Schnaufer improved her record to 4-1 after making seven saves, while sophomore Kathryn Mahoney made her season debut with eight minutes on the field.
The Tigers will enjoy a break on Saturday before facing DePauw University on Sunday, March 16th, at 9 AM MT in Memphis.
