SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — The recent discovery of two women found deceased along a rural road in Rembert has prompted an ongoing homicide investigation by local authorities. The Sumter County Coroner’s Office has identified the individuals as 35-year-old Christine Marie McAbee and 38-year-old Kristen Grissom, both residents of Charleston County.
Coroner Robbie Baker reported that the bodies were located in a wooded area near Richbow Road around 1 p.m. on Friday. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston to determine the cause of death.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the case. Sheriff Anthony Dennis was present at the scene on Friday afternoon, where investigators secured the area and began searching for any potential evidence related to the deaths.
As investigations continue, neither the Sheriff’s Office nor the Coroner’s Office has disclosed any information that might indicate the cause or manner of death. Sheriff Dennis emphasized the need for caution and objectivity, stating, “In the meantime, we cannot speculate,” regarding the circumstances surrounding these tragic events.
The Sheriff’s Office has also issued a call to the public for assistance. Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the case to reach out by calling 803-436-2000.
