The International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a landmark announcement regarding the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025. The total prize money will reach an unprecedented USD $13.88 million, representing a remarkable 297% increase compared to the previous tournament.
Chairman of the ICC, Jay Shah, emphasized the importance of this decision, stating that “this increase in prize money is not only historic but also aims to elevate the status of women’s cricket globally.” This prize fund surpasses the USD $10 million awarded at the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Details of the Prize Distribution
The tournament is set to take place from September 30 to November 2, hosted by India and Sri Lanka. In total, 13 teams will compete across five venues, including cities like Guwahati, Indore, and Colombo.
Winners and Other Awards
- Winners: USD $4.48 million (a 239% increase from the last Women’s World Cup).
- Runners-up: USD $2.24 million (a 273% increase compared to the last edition).
- Semi-finalists: USD $1.12 million each.
- Group-stage wins: USD $34,314 each match.
- Guaranteed participation funds: USD $250,000 for each team.
Supporting Women’s Cricket Growth
The ICC is actively focusing on the development and recognition of women’s cricket. The increase in prize money coincides with the organization’s broader strategy to promote equality in cricket, including initiatives for pay parity introduced ahead of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.
