Nebraska Softball Season Concludes with Community Spirit
The Nebraska softball team recently wrapped up a record-setting season, falling just one victory short of their first appearance in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City in over a decade. Despite this disappointment, the community came together to celebrate the team’s achievements.
Gathering Spot for Fans: Set the Bar
Husker supporters congregated at Set the Bar, the only sports bar in Nebraska specifically dedicated to women’s sports, located in Benson. The venue provided an inviting atmosphere where fans could enjoy the game accompanied by food and drinks.
According to Sue Tharnish, a resident of Benson, “I think it is one of those places where it’s easy to come in. The people are warm and accepting, and they’re just interested in making sure your day is good.” This welcoming environment aligns with the bar’s mission of fostering inclusivity.
Inclusivity at the Core
Kiley Valien, a hostess at Set the Bar, emphasized that the establishment is about more than just women’s sports. “They’re not just women’s sports here. It’s also about, like, equality, making sure everybody feels comfortable here.” This commitment to inclusivity resonates with many patrons.
First-time visitors Kim and Michelle noted how they felt at ease upon entering the venue. “It’s obviously open to our family and to everybody. So, it’s just great to be ourselves and enjoy when there’s always… it’s really kind of nice to be able to watch women’s sports,” said Kim Burlingame.
Supporting Future Generations
Set the Bar aims to create a space that nurtures younger fans, ensuring they understand that their enthusiasm for women’s sports is recognized publicly. “Being able to reach out to that younger crowd and having them grow up knowing that they do have the support, that they are getting seen by, like, the public, and it’s not just for themselves, is really nice,” they noted.
A Proud Establishment
Molly Huyuck, the bar’s owner, expressed her pride in creating a community hub. “I just love having a place where it doesn’t matter what color jersey you wear, you can root for your team,” she stated. This sentiment reflects the establishment’s dedication to unity among fans.
A Community for Women’s Sports Enthusiasts
The establishment has become a home for those passionate about women’s sports. Callaghan Cavanaugh shared his thoughts, noting, “It’s really cool to see how many people are in the community that have been passionate about women’s sports for a long time now. We have a place to go together.”
As Nebraska’s softball season concludes, the community’s support remains steadfast, with Set the Bar providing an essential gathering place for fans who champion women’s sports.
