Empowering Women in Sports
HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point University Athletics takes pride in honoring National Girls and Women in Sports Day by spotlighting its exceptional female student-athletes and staff. This annual occasion celebrates the accomplishments and contributions of women in the realm of sports.
During a recent photoshoot, these remarkable women were invited to share insights for younger athletes embarking on their sports journeys. Freshman Abigail Dibble, a midfielder on the women’s soccer team, advised, “Don’t compare your athletic journey to anyone else.” Her teammate, junior forward Courtney Andruczk, emphasized the importance of perseverance, stating, “When things get tough, remember the end result you aspire to achieve and why you are here.”
Auriane Viola, a graduate pole vaulter, encouraged patience, saying, “Progress and success are unique to each individual, so just be patient.” Freshman sprinter/jumper Ashari Pearson expressed the boundless potential within every dream, advising, “Anything you dream is possible. Set your goals, work hard, and celebrate every victory. Stay motivated through setbacks while keeping your vision alive.”
From the women’s lacrosse team, Bella Germani and Tatum Mehring shared their thoughts. Germani reflected, “I wish I had known earlier to always keep a positive attitude in sports and to push yourself daily, whether in practice or game scenarios.” Mehring added, “When you’re ready, remain committed and trust the process.” Germani is a junior transfer midfielder, while Mehring plays as a redshirt junior defender.
The volleyball team was represented by freshmen defensive specialists Brooke Briscoe and Grace Killion, who voiced together, “Pressure is a privilege; embrace the challenges of college life. Cherish every moment since it goes by quickly. Make the most of your time with your best friends while playing the sport you love.”
Freshman rower Kate Concepcion shared her thoughts for fellow athletes, urging, “Stay committed and trust the process.” Concepcion and the rowing team marked a significant milestone this fall by beginning their inaugural season as the 17th Division I sport at High Point.
Graduate cross-country runner Alyssa Hendrix offered her advice, saying, “Be consistent.” Freshman teammate Danielle Jensen encouraged finding joy in the pursuit of athleticism.
Graduate golfer Sofia Benavides-Herberth reminded everyone to “enjoy the journey, trust your abilities, and believe in yourself!” Fellow graduate golfer Julia McLaughlin added, “You don’t rise to the occasion; rather, you sink to the level of your preparation.”
In women’s basketball, freshman forward Annalise Lindsay shared, “My advice is that if you give 60% of your effort, and that’s all you can give, then you’ve given 100%. Celebrate the small victories and take pride in your achievements; that joy will carry you far!”
Senior guard Lauren Scott emphasized the importance of faith, advising young athletes to “keep Christ first and never let anyone hinder your greatness!” Redshirt freshman Emma Larios echoed this sentiment, stating, “Your worth and identity come from Christ, not your performance. Use the talents God has given you to glorify Him!”
