Celebrating Women Achievers: The Return of Devi Awards in Bengaluru
BENGALURU: After a nine-year hiatus, the Devi Awards are making a glorious comeback in Bengaluru this Saturday, honoring the remarkable achievements of women across diverse fields. This marks the first time since 2015 that the awards will be held in the city.
Honoring Exceptional Women
The Devi Awards celebrate a wide array of influential women, ranging from a serial entrepreneur to a handloom revivalist, a theatre luminary to an Olympian, and an inclusive activist to a historian dedicated to science and technology. The event serves to shine a light on those whose contributions have significantly impacted Karnataka and beyond.
A Legacy of Recognition
Established by The New Indian Express in 2014, the Devi Awards aim to acknowledge and honor the extraordinary accomplishments of professional women who are transforming lives through their dedicated efforts across various sectors.
29th Edition Honors Twelve Trailblazers
This year marks the 29th edition of the awards, with Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah set to present honors to 12 outstanding women achievers. Among the honorees are:
- Anju Bobby George: A two-time Olympian and Senior Vice-President of the Athletics Federation of India, she also leads the Anju Bobby Sports Foundation.
- Arundhati Nag: A renowned theatre personality and the founder of the acclaimed Rangashankara.
- Dr. Pratima Murthy: Director of NIMHANS, making strides in mental health.
- Meena Ganesh: Co-founder and Chairperson of Portea Medical, a successful serial entrepreneur.
- Samhita Arni: An author known for her passion for retelling mythology.
- Alina Alam: Founder and CEO of Mitti Cafe, a prominent inclusive activist.
- Kavita Gupta Sabharwal: Founder and Managing Trustee of Neev Schools, an educationist impacting young minds.
- Pavithra Muddaya: Co-founder of Vimor, dedicated to handloom revival.
- Jahnavi Phalkey: Founding Director of Science Gallery Bengaluru, a historian of science and technology.
- Nirupama Rajendra: A celebrated classical dancer.
- Dr. Vatsala Thirumalai: Professor and Dean of Research at NCBS, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, known for her impactful research.
- Sonali Sattar: Restaurateur and founder of Grasshopper, an early pioneer in standalone fine dining.
These exemplary women will be honored at a grand ceremony held at the Hotel ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru, celebrating their invaluable contributions and inspiring journeys.
A Tribute to Accomplished Women
Initiated in December 2014 in New Delhi, the Devi Awards have celebrated nearly 300 women achievers from across India in their first 28 editions, creating a profound impact on recognition and empowerment of women in various domains.
