Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee County Parks is excited to unveil the “Women and Girls in Science” event, scheduled for February 9th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Kosciuszko Community Center, located at 2201 S. 7th St. in Milwaukee. Organized by the dedicated staff at Wehr Nature Center, this event is focused on dismantling traditional stereotypes associated with careers in science, aiming to empower the next generation of female leaders in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM).
While the image of a scientist is often portrayed as a male in a white lab coat, this event seeks to broaden that narrative by celebrating the significant contributions of women in STEAM fields. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with local women leaders, who will serve as mentors through interactive, hands-on activities designed to inspire young minds.
Event Highlights
- Interactive STEAM Activities: Participants will delve into various aspects of science and technology through enjoyable and practical activities that spark a love for learning and exploration.
- Meet STEAM Trailblazers: Discover the innovative work of female pioneers in STEAM and the impact of their contributions on our world today.
- Mentorship Opportunities: Connect with local women leading in their respective STEAM fields, offering invaluable insights into real-world applications and career paths.
This inspiring event is open to everyone, with a special invitation for individuals aged 10 and older. Admission is free, but pre-registration is kindly requested to secure your place.
“We take pride in supporting an event that not only showcases the remarkable achievements of women in the sciences but also nurtures an environment where young girls can envision themselves as the future innovators and leaders,” stated Carly Hintz, Director of the Wehr Nature Center.
Wehr Nature Center would also like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to We Energies for their generous support, which has made this event possible.
Join us in recognizing that anyone can be a scientist and explore the limitless possibilities within the STEAM fields.
